One of the Gravitator's standout features is Shimano's Action Modifying Insert. Located at the body joint, the removable insert allows anglers to change the lure's swimming characteristics. With the insert removed, the Gravitator produces a tighter, choppier action. Install the insert and the range of motion is limited to create a broader, sweeping glide, giving anglers two distinct presentations from the same bait.

Shimano also incorporates ARMABOOST technology to improve casting performance. During the cast, the jointed body disengages from an internal magnet and folds into a more compact, aerodynamic profile. This reduces air resistance and helps minimize the helicoptering commonly associated with large jointed swimbaits. Once the lure hits the water, the body reengages with the magnet and returns to its swimming position.

Select Gravitator colors feature FLASH BOOST, which suspends reflective foil on micro springs to produce fish-attracting flash during the retrieve and even while the lure is paused. Other models utilize Shimano's SCALE BOOST composite-pitch holographic patterns to closely imitate the reflective appearance of natural baitfish scales.
