Joe Malat Joe Malat lives on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and is a professional outdoor writer, book author and newspaper columnist with more than 40 years of fishing experience. He writes about saltwater fishing along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, specializing in surf, pier and inshore fishing in North Carolina. His articles and photographs are published regularly in several national and regional magazines. He is the author of two books, “Surf Fishing, Catching Fish from the Beach,” and “Pier Fishing.” Joe is an active member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association, and the Mason-Dixon Outdoor Writers Association. Since 1994 Joe has been the Director of the Outer Banks Surf Fishing Schools, a unique combination of classroom, and on-the-beach programs that teach the fundamentals of surf fishing. Several school sessions are held every year. Joe also presents workshops, seminars and clinics about Outer Banks saltwater fishing.
