I was using a 1.5" white curl tail grub, no split shot. He was swimming about 7-10 feet out from the lake shore. He measured 18" long; Our not-so-great scale said he was 3.5 lbs., but felt a little heavier. This was my first "big" fish catch as I am new to fishing! (about 2 weeks into it!) I yelled to my husband "I don't know what I'm doing!!" It was quite comical! But I reeled him in, measured & weighed him, snapped a photo with my cell phone and let him go! My husband (he's holding the fish) WAS AMAZED and kept telling me it was a really great catch!!
