Date Caught: May 14, 2003
Location: Stonecoal Lake (Lewis County)
State: West Virginia
Fish:
Muskie
Photo Description It took 48 years, but a state record for length has been established for musky in West Virginia.
Glenn Boyd, of Weston, caught the 52.7 inch, 38.5 pound fish May 14, 2003 in Stonecoal Lake in Lewis County. Boyd caught the muskie on 8-pound test line with a Mepps minnow spinner.
While he was trolling for trout,Boyd's wife noticed a large fish cruising the shore line. Boyd's third cast with the spinner elicited the strike and a 50-minute battle ensued.
Boyd's catch exceeded one of the oldest state records in West Virginia. Lester Hayes caught a 52.5 inch, 43-pound Musky in the Elk River in 1955.
